Where the river meets Greek fishing heritage
Tarpon Springs is unlike anywhere else on the bay — the sponge docks, the Greek community, the working fishing fleet, and the Anclote River winding from the springs to the Gulf. It's a town where the waterfront is identity, not amenity. Docks here range from historic structures along the bayous to newer builds on the river's residential stretches.
The Anclote is spring-fed, which makes it special: clearer, cooler water than most of the bay, with a steady flow. River docks here deal with current and with the river's varying depth — shallow bars and deeper holes along its bends. Upstream the water turns fresher, which actually changes the maintenance picture: marine borers are less aggressive in lower salinity, but the current still works every piling.
Bayous, springs, and the Gulf
The residential bayous off the Anclote — quiet, winding, lined with older Florida homes — are classic dock water: sheltered, moderate depth, and perfect for a simple boat dock or fishing pier. Out toward the Gulf, exposure ramps up fast; docks near the river mouth and on the open bayou need the heavy-weather build.
Historic character matters here. In the older districts, a dock should look like it belongs — we design profiles and materials that fit the neighborhood rather than dropping in something that screams new construction. And the permitting reflects the area's environmental sensitivity: the river and its springs get real protection, which we navigate as a matter of course.
