Tampa Bay eats weak docks for breakfast
Saltwater never sleeps. It rots cheap lumber, rusts cheap hardware, and chews through pilings that were never meant for the bay. Add Tampa's summer storms, boat wakes in the channels, and a tide that rises and falls twice a day, and you get the truth about this market: a dock that would last twenty years on a calm lake gets tested hard here. That is why Tampa Dock Builders exists. We build docks for Tampa water — not generic docks that happen to be in Tampa.
Every project starts the same way: we come to your property, walk the shoreline with you, and look at what the water is actually doing. Then we design around it — the right piling depth for your bottom, the right deck height for your tide range, the right fasteners for salt air. You get a free written estimate before we touch a single board.
What we build and fix
Most of our work falls into a few buckets. Custom dock design and construction is the big one — new docks drawn for your shoreline, your boat, and your budget. Boat lift installation keeps your boat out of the water and off the bottom paint schedule. Seawall repair stops the slow erosion that steals backyards a little at a time. And dock repair and restoration brings tired old docks back to solid instead of starting over.
We also handle the specialty jobs: piling replacement, dock deck resurfacing, floating docks, fishing piers, dock lighting, dock inspections, storm damage repair, and commercial dock work for marinas and waterfront businesses.
Why Tampa docks fail — and how we build differently
Walk any canal in Apollo Beach or Ruskin and you will see the pattern. Docks built with interior-grade thinking: untreated posts, deck screws instead of stainless fasteners, pilings set shallow in soft mud. They look fine on day one. By year five the deck boards are cupping, the posts are soft at the waterline, and the whole thing leans toward the neighbor's yard.
We build against that. Marine-grade lumber rated for saltwater contact. Stainless or hot-dipped galvanized hardware — never plain steel. Pilings driven or jetted to real depth, not just "deep enough to stand up." Deck heights set for your local tide range so the dock doesn't flood at high tide or strand your boat at low tide. These are not upgrades. In Tampa Bay, they are the baseline.
From first call to finished dock
It starts with a phone call or the form on this page. We set a time to visit — usually within a few days — and walk your property with you. We measure, we check the bottom conditions, we look at your seawall if you have one, and we talk through what you want the dock to do: fishing, boating, sunset-watching, all three.
Then you get a written estimate. Free. No pressure, no "sign today" games. If you want to move forward, we handle the permit paperwork with the county and the state, schedule the work, and build it. When we leave, the site is clean, the dock is solid, and you know exactly who to call if anything ever needs attention.
