Scottish roots, sailing soul
Dunedin keeps a small-town feel on a spectacular piece of water. St. Joseph Sound stretches out front — shallow, grassy, and gorgeous — with Honeymoon Island and Caladesi guarding the Gulf beyond. It's sailboat country as much as powerboat country, and the waterfront ranges from modest bayou cottages to beautiful sound-front homes.
The Sound's defining trait is its shallows. The grass flats run far out, which is wonderful for fishing and terrible for deep-draft boats. Dock length here is often driven by the need to reach navigable depth — and in the Sound's protected waters, longer docks need to be designed carefully so they don't become seagrass issues. We know the local requirements and design accordingly.
Bayous, the causeway, and quiet water
The residential bayous — Jerry Lake, the bayou neighborhoods — are sheltered dock water: moderate depth, low wake, and perfect for straightforward boat docks and lifts. Near the Dunedin Causeway, you've got the Sound's best access and the town's recreational heart; docks here serve kayaks and paddleboards as much as boats.
Sailboats change the dock conversation: deeper draft, taller rigs, and the need for dock layouts that handle a boat with real windage. We design for sail as well as power — fairway width, piling placement, and lift capacity all follow the boat, not a template.
